Barefoot’s March event offers a new approach in a new venue

While, with our opera productions and song recitals, we have demonstrated the combined strength of music and word, we are now putting poetry and music side by side to explore their distinctive powers.

Prize-winning poets Antony Mair and Judith Shaw offer a rich variety in their poems on personal histories, combining dark material with humour and irony. Jenny Miller and Karin Miura respond with music including Ravel, Britten and a rare chance to hear the canzonettas of the Chevalier de Saint-Georges.

The artists are generously offering this evening as a fundraiser for Barefoot Opera, so all proceeds are a charitable donation.

We are delighted to be at Crown House, an appropriately intimate and charming venue which, as the first building erected in the New Town of St Leonards-On-Sea, has a unique place in our local history.
