Audition Notice

Barefoot Opera, well known for its fresh and lively performances of opera classics, presents a unique evening, combining a well-loved opera favourite with an operatic rarity that share a common theme: our search for love and inspiration in a dangerous world.

General information:

The singers and instrumentalists work as an ensemble, the operas are fully staged, costumed, and sung in the original language. The production will be able to adapt to socially distanced staging if required. 

Musical direction is by Lesley-Anne Sammons
The production will be directed by Lysanne van Overbeek; artistic director of Over the Pond Productions and associate at Barefoot Opera.

Overview:

Every day will start with a company warm-up focusing on body, voice, and ensemble work. Individual vocal and coaching sessions are scheduled alongside rehearsals and a strong emphasis is placed on physical freedom and strong characterization.

Dates:

Production Rehearsals:  July 26th – Aug 6 in London.
Performances: 4 performances in a theatre venue in Central London, then Battle, Hastings, Maidenhead, and Bourne End; totaling 8 performances (and 1 cover performance) between mid-August and 10th October.
If you have NAs during this period, do not let that stop you from auditioning. The dates are still flexible at this stage.

Orfeo / Zanetto – mezzo-soprano
Euridice / Sylvia – soprano

Fee: We can offer £1000, this includes travel.

Young Artist Programme:

The Young Artist Programme is a 10-day non-residential course for advanced singers working to develop their solo careers in the profession. 

This year the Young Artists will be two understudies, and one young soprano, who will train and study alongside the main singers and take part in the Young Artist Program.

Understudy Roles:
Orfeo / Zanetto – mezzo-soprano
Euridice / Sylvia – soprano
Please note the understudies will receive a fee of £100 if they are called to perform, as well as one guaranteed performance. 

Student Role:
Amor – soprano
We wish to cast a serious A level music student, a pre-music conservatory student or simply pursuing private studies.
This is not a paid role; travel expenses will be covered.

Please send a cover letter and an online link to a video presenting an aria from either production and/or repertoire that is consonant with the part you are auditioning for to info@barefootopera.com by Friday 12th March.
