“The traditional mechanistic view of anatomy, as useful as it has been, has objectified rather than humanised our relationship to our insides.”Thomas Myers
Descartes described the human body as a ‘soft machine’. As singers, we know this true on one level, but the machine analogy very quickly becomes inadequate. How can we find working methods that genuinely connect our body machinery to our sense of self, and allow both vocal competence and artistry to flourish?
Our London Summer Course allows in-depth work on this process.
Working with a team including outstanding movement specialists, singers, and coaches, we can offer real change in singers’ training methods.
About the Course
In a supportive and friendly environment, students will be introduced to Barefoot’s unmatched model of working with responsive breath, voice and movement, to help develop their skills as classical singers.
Each day will start with group work utilizing Barefoot Opera principles, followed by small group master classes in song and opera repertoire. There will be theatre classes that are specifically integrated with voice work. There will be a public performance of staged opera scenes at the end of the course, and at least one other open performance during the week. Suitable for aspiring or established professionals and those who may not sing professionally but have a dedicated and serious interest in developing as classical singers.
The course is non-residential and will take place at the Barefoot Studio and the Telegraph Hill centre, with ample spaces for personal practice and several class spaces.
