Description
StrongBack Productions and Barefoot Opera invite you to an evening of wine, songs and conversations to introduce a new community opera:
Chronicles of Rye
Wednesday 26th November at 6.45pm
The Ballroom of The George Hotel, 98 High Street, Rye, TN 31 7JT.
This is a special event to introduce the collaborative partnership of StrongBack Productions and Barefoot Opera and a new community opera Chronicles of Rye, by composer Dominique Le Gendre and James Stewart (Rye News and Ryecast)
The unique history of Rye as a coastal town and its constantly shifting natural landscapes will be the inspiration for this new work by Dominique Le Gendre, the London-based composer whose works have been widely commissioned and praised (Royal Opera House, Proms, BBC, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre ). She will create a series of musical portraits drawn from local archives, interviews and Rye News, while James Stewart will build a parallel arc of soundscapes and interviews. Professional soloists will be supported by local choirs who represent the townspeople and the natural world.
“There was a luminous charm in Le Gendre’s glittering score and musical language”.
