About Us
Barefoot Opera is a Hastings-based opera charity built on a simple belief: that opera is for everyone. We train emerging singers and performers, reach into the communities of the South East, and bring people of all backgrounds together through opera. We are collaborators. We experiment to innovate. We are inclusive, and we commit to continuous learning.
About the Trustee Role
We are looking for new Trustees to join our Board. Our Trustees are central to ensuring Barefoot Opera is well governed, financially sound, and delivering on its mission. The Board meets six times per year, combining in-person and remote meetings. As a small charity, Trustees are occasionally asked to support operations: helping with management, events, or other practical tasks where their involvement makes a real difference.
Each Trustee is expected to leverage their specific skills, knowledge, or experience to contribute to informed decision-making within the Board.
We are particularly interested to hear from people with experience in:
- Education
- Governance, charity law, regulatory compliance
- Financial management, fundraising, business development
Responsibilities
- Support the Board in setting and monitoring Barefoot Opera’s strategic direction
- Contribute to financial oversight: reviewing budgets, monitoring progress, and ensuring the charity’s resources are used well
- Act in the best interests of Barefoot Opera at all times, setting aside personal interests
- Make decisions in line with good practice and the charity’s governing document
- Follow the six statutory duties of charity trustees. Find out more here.
